| The Betty and Jerry Singer Scholarship
Fund is off and running. A committee has been formed to develop the
scholarship application and select the recipient of this year’s award.
I would like to take this opportunity to share the vision established for
the Fund with everyone at TKE and explain the application and award process.
The vision is comprised of four elements: First, the purpose of the Betty and Jerry Singer Scholarship Fund is to encourage service, involvement and leadership in TKE, especially KEFTY, the senior youth group. Second, while I am pleased to report that we have initial funding through private donations, our plan is for this to eventually become an endowed (self perpetuating) fund. As such, it would have sufficient principle that the investment interest and dividends would fund yearly scholarship awards. This year the Fund will provide a $1,000 scholarship. We hope that this amount can be increased in future years either to $2,000 or several awards of $1,000. Third, the award will be provided to someone with the following general qualifications: A. A high school senior that has been accepted to a college or university, B. A current member of TKE and KEFTY, and C. Has performed exceptional service, involvement, and leadership to TKE during high school years (grades 9 - 12). Fourth, the scholarship is merit based. This means that everyone can apply regardless of their parent’s financial situation. The scholarship application is available NOW electronically by emailing me at. blakesinger@hotmail.com You can fill it out using MS Word but electronic form of the required signatures will NOT be accepted. Candidates must submit their completed applications in my in-box at the TKE office by April 1. We apologize that time is a bit short this year for submitting the applications (so get going!). We’ll give everyone more notice next year. The Fund committee will review the applications and select the recipient. The winner will be presented the award at one of the May Friday night Shabbat services. If you have any questions about the scholarship feel free to speak with myself or any of the other committee members: Craig Aronoff, Lynnor Holder, or Randy Stuart. |
