How We Began (Breisheit...) Temple Kol Emeth was founded in 1982 by seven families who felt the need for a Reform Jewish presence in Cobb County. We have been affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism (formerly Union of American Hebrew Congregations) since 1987. Despite an astounding rate of growth in recent years (we now have more than 750 families), we have maintained a strong family atmosphere. Each member has a voice in the future of the Temple. Speak to Kol Emeth congregants and you will hear over and over that this is more than a house of prayer...it is a family and a community. This is typified by Kol Emeth's many family-oriented activities, including our annual congregational Passover Seder, Hannukah and Purim festivals, an annual day-long picnic and a week-end religious retreat each year. On a more personal level members are quick to respond to the needs of other congregants during times of need, and newcomers find they are quickly drawn into the Kol Emeth Family |

Tradition and Observance As a Reform congregation, we value the diverse traditions of our members. Our Shabbat and holiday observances blend traditional and contemporary melodies, prayers, and rituals in Hebrew and English. Shabbat services are held every Friday evening at 8 p.m. and "Tot Shabbat" services at 7 p.m. prior to the congregational service. Saturday morning worship at 10:30 is a regular part of b'nai mitzvah observances and other special occurrences. Our services are enhanced by the performances of our Cantor, Ellen Stettner, our Cantorial Soloist, Blake Singer and, occasionally, by our own Shir Emeth Choir. Free baby-sitting is available Friday evening during worship services. Holidays are shared family events, from joyous Simchat Torah dancing to the annual Purim-shpiel. A congregational Passover seder is also a yearly family festivity. While each person is free to choose his or her own level of observance, Kol Emeth also maintains a policy of requiring that kashrut be observed at all functions held at the synagogue. |

Education: A Continuing Process We at Temple Kol Emeth are committed to providing relevant and meaningful education for both children and adults. Our religious school is the largest in the Southeast, with over 650 children. Classes are available for Grades K-12 weekly. Pre-school for ages 3-4 is bi-monthly. Hebrew classes for Grades 3-7 meet twice a week. Individual bar/bat mitzvah tutoring is provided. Regular adult education courses include beginning and intermediate Hebrew, conversational Hebrew, adult B'nai Mitzvah preparation, holiday workshops and Torah study. Special offerings by the Rabbi and other qualified instructors include an "Introduction to Judaism" series, conversion classes, adult confirmation classes, and seminars for inter-faith couples. |

Spiritual Leadership Rabbi Steve Lebow has served as Kol Emeth's dedicated spiritual leader since 1986, when he first came to Cobb county to join the then small congregation. Ordained in 1983, Rabbi Lebow has brought his vision, inspiration, enthusiasm and social consciousness to Kol Emeth. He has also brought a unique ability to help people personalize their own religious beliefs, so that members feel free to express their own interpretations of their faith. He is a skilled teacher and speaker whose talents and charm attract listeners of all ages and all persuasions. |

Our Extended Family More than just a house of prayer and study, Temple Kol Emeth is a place for friendship and community service. Our Women of Reform Judaism chapter and Brotherhood provide activities and enrichments for their members and the congregation as a whole. Kol Emeth also has a large and active singles group, as well as support groups for divorced and bereaved members. We have several youth groups to provide social activities and service opportunities for our younger congregants. Our strong commitment to community services is evidenced by our staffing of the Zaban Homeless Shelter, our continuing assistance to Russian immigrants, our AIDS assistance program, our 'Mutual Aid' Loss Support Group, our readiness to aid fellow Jews and non-Jews in Atlanta and the world. |
