Madrikhimot Program
Madrikhimot Program for 9th-12th Graders
Hello 9th–12th graders! Do you love working with young children? Are you interested in earning community service hours? Become a madrikh/ah today!
Our Madrikhimot Program is a fantastic way to develop leadership skills, earn community service hours, and stay involved with Temple Kol Emeth! Madrikhimot serve as teacher’s assistants and role models for students in grades K–7 on Sunday mornings or Tuesday afternoons during Religious and Hebrew School.
WHAT IS IT EXACTLY?
The term madrikhimot comes from the Hebrew word derekh, meaning "the way". Madrikhimot (plural) literally show our students the way of how to live Jewishly. They support our Religious School by serving as teaching assistants in the classroom, leading small groups, or working in other school capacities. Our madrikhimot program offers 9th-12th grade teens the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills.
You will have the amazing opportunity to help our younger students grow and develop Jewishly by:
- Leading small group discussions and lessons
- Assisting children who need academic, social or emotional support
- Helping to keep the classroom running smoothly by collecting tzedakah, prepping art projects, preparing snacks and more!
- Serving as a positive Jewish role model, showing our students just how much fun and meaning there is in Jewish learning and life!
HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT TO DO?
Serving as madrikhimot is an opportunity for teens to develop communication, organizational and teaching skills. In addition to everything they learn over the course of the year, all madrikhimot are required to attend:
- Madrikhimot Orientation, tentatively set for Sunday, August 11th, 2024, starting around 11am
- Ongoing madrikhimot development workshops throughout the year
These workshops will provide important training on working in a classroom, teaching students, and even about interpersonal communication. This experience will look great on a resume or college application!
IS THIS A PAID POSITION?
Our madrikhimot are volunteers, and students will receive community service credit.
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF MADRIKHIMOT
We expect our madrikhimot to:
- Be positive role models for the students and serve as mentors
- Attend orientation and training workshops
- Sign in at least 15 minutes before class begins
- Attend classes regularly and on time (notify the teacher in case of an absence)
- Review the lesson each week with the teacher before class

- Participate and encourage student participation during music, dance or t’filah sessions
- Help involve students in the lesson and help keep individual students on task
- Work with students one-to-one or in small groups as directed by the teacher
- Accept constructive feedback and work towards self-improvement
- When asked - help evaluate the lesson and student performance with teacher (briefly after class)
WHO CAN HELP WITH QUESTIONS OR MADRIKHIMOT SUPPORT?
