Rabbi Daniel K. Alter, Rabbi-Educator

Rabbi Daniel K. Alter (he/him/his) is so excited to join the Temple Kol Emeth team! Rabbi Alter approaches his rabbinate as an opportunity to pay forward the gifts of love and support that countless rabbis and Jewish communities have given him. He seeks to broaden and deepen what Judaism is and can be by exploring the vast library of Jewish literature and reconnecting with a Jewish sense of play.

Rabbi Alter grew up in southeast Texas and credits his large, committed family and his experiences at Greene Family Camp, a URJ camp in Bruceville, TX, for his service in the rabbinate.

Rabbi Alter graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with BA’s in Archaeology and Anthropology, then began his career in the Jewish world at Texas Hillel. After receiving an MA in Jewish Education (2014) and rabbinic ordination (2017) from Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles, Rabbi Alter first served as the Director of Education for Temple Beth Emeth in Ann Arbor, MI. He also moonlights for Torah Aura, a Jewish education publishing company, where he has written four books and is working on his fifth.

In addition, Rabbi Alter is an avid reader, board gamer, traveler, aspiring golfer, and a lifelong geek, which he proves by keeping an adult sized Darth Vader – aka @DarthRabbi – costume in his office at all times.

Rabbi Alter can be reached by email at RabbiAlter@kolemeth.net.
